Hi, my name is Coral and I would like to share a few facts about Sir David Attenborough. Sir David is an extreme explorer who has published many books, TV shows, and more! David has experienced a lot in his long life that I would love to share in a biography form. Enjoy!

Early life

Sir David Attenborough was born on the 8th May 1926, meaning that he is 97 at the moment. When growing up, he had two adopted Jewish refugee sisters and had one brother. Richard Attenborough later became a famous actor you might know the name of. David was raised at Leicester, on the campus of its University college. David’s dad was the head master of that Uni. Only at 11 years old, David struck a deal with the Uni selling newts! The newts came from a pond near the zoology department. Sir David Attenborough had never considered himself as an animal lover, but has been fascinated by them.

Challenges faced

Sir David has faced many challenges in his life. Sir David had been rejected for his first job he had ever applied for in the BBC. Sir David had never passed his driving test, as so for that, he cannot drive. Not driving is hard when you are an extreme traveller. In 1950, Sir David married Jane Elizabeth Ebsworth Oriel. They together had two children but sadly, Jane died in 1997. The only animal Sir David doesn’t like are rats!

Quotes

These are some exciting quotes from David Attenborough:

It seems to me that the natural world is the greatest source of excitement; the greatest source of visual beauty; the greatest source of intellectual interest. It is the greatest source of so much in life that makes life worth living.”

“An understanding of the natural world is a source of not only great curiosity, but great fulfilment.

It’s surely our responsibility to do everything within our power to create a planet that provides a home not just for us, but for all life on Earth.”

“Young people – they care. They know that this is the world that they’re going to grow up in, that they’re going to spend the rest of their lives in. But, I think it’s more idealistic than that. They actually believe that humanity, human species, has no right to destroy and despoil regardless.”
